Just got back from the Glazer-Kennedy seminar in Baltimore.

Absolutely fantastic! And it was free. Why weren’t you there?

If you’re not going to the Glazer-Kennedy seminars, you’re missing out on a vital part of your business success.

I’ll be speaking at their seminar in Nashville in April. Be there. And be sure to say hello to me.

There are a number of fatal publicity mistakes I see people making over and over again. These people wonder why they aren’t getting publicity. I’m going to do a series of posts talking about these mistakes. They are in no particular order.

The first mistake I want to focus on is directly promoting a product or service in a press release.

The purpose – the ONLY purpose – of a press release is to get the attention of the reporters. It’s not to sell a product.

I know what other people have told you. I know what those $20 books on publicity have told you.

They all have told you to be sure to get the name of your product, the price, the phone number to order, etc. in your press release.

They’ve told you to be sure to mention your product several times during your interviews. And be sure to include all of the ordering information.

The truth is – that’s the fastest way to get your press release tossed in the trash. Do direct plugs for your product during your interviews and that’ll be the last time that reporter interviews you.

The only job of your press release is to get the attention of the reporter.

The ONLY job of your press release is to get the attention of the reporter.

Your only job in seeking publicity is to be a source of great information that the reporter can pass along to his audience. Your job is NOT to be a salesman for your product.

Try to directly sell your product during your interviews and you’ll find yourself on the outside looking in, wondering what happened.

OK, that’s it for now. I’ve got to get back to keeping my eye on those people making fatal mistakes as they try to get publicity.

Hope I don’t spot you!

    Paul,
I was at that seminar. It was fantastic! Somehow I spent about $1000 at a FREE event (smile).

But one of the highlights for me was your presentation. I bought your system and several days later was talking to a radio host. At his request, I sent my Q&A sheet and bio over to him and was booked on his show the next day!

He thought I was prepared and professional because I had followed your system. He liked me so much, he has already asked me to come back on his show!

I am a firm believer that publicity works and that it can work for everyone.

P.S. Please don’t share your system with my competitors!
