The big publicity lesson from Time magazine
December 22nd, 2007
To continue my story from a few days ago about Time magazine’s brilliant publicity strategy…
After going though the entire magazine and seeing plenty of great publicity strategies, the best came on the last page. There I found an essay titled “The Power of 10″.
In that essay, the author offered the 10 reasons people go crazy over Top 10 lists.
The first 9 were funny and insightful. But it was #10 that rang the bell. Here’s what the author said:
“If you put numbers on it, people will read anything, however trite, trivial and insipid, from beginning to end.”
If you don’t get the ENORMOUS impact of that sentence, keep reading it until you do.
That’s one of the greatest publicity lessons I can offer you.
That’s it for today. I have a lot to get done.
Hmmm, maybe I should give you a list of the Top 10 things I want to accomplish today…
